Cam Site Glossary

Updated 2026-08-01 · 4 min read

New to cam sites? The chat scrolls past fast and it is stuffed with shorthand that makes perfect sense once someone explains it and looks like a foreign language until they do. Here is the vocabulary you will actually run into, grouped so you can find things, and mercifully free of jargon invented for its own sake. Keep this open in a tab for your first few visits and the whole place gets a lot friendlier.

Money and currency

  • Tokens the in-site currency you buy up front, then tip or spend on shows. Some premium sites call them credits instead.
  • Tip menu a pinned price list pairing an action with a number of tokens, so you always know what a tip buys.
  • Goal a shared token target the whole room fills together, with a bar tracking progress toward it.
  • Countdown a goal shown in reverse, ticking down from a big number as tips arrive.

Types of show

  • Public show the free room anyone can watch, funded by tips.
  • Private show a paid one-on-one session, billed by the minute.
  • Spy show watching someone else’s private at a lower rate, with no control over it.
  • Group show a paid show several viewers join and split the cost of.
  • Ticket show a show you buy a ticket for in advance, then watch when it starts.

Features and tech

  • Cam2Cam (C2C) a private where your own camera is shared too, making it a two-way exchange.
  • Lovense the best-known brand of interactive toy that reacts to tips in real time.
  • Pattern menu a list of toy reactions, each triggered by a specific tip amount.
  • HD the room is streaming in high definition.
  • VR a room you can watch through a virtual reality headset, offered on a few sites.

People and site models

  • Freemium a site that is free to watch and earns from tips and extras, like Chaturbate or Stripchat.
  • Premium a site built around paid private shows, like LiveJasmin.
  • Fan club a paid subscription to one performer for perks and extra content.
  • Regular a viewer who comes back to the same performer often and is known to them.
  • Whale slang for someone who tips very heavily.
A word with a history

"Whale" is borrowed straight from casinos and mobile games, where it means the same thing: the small number of big spenders who quietly keep the lights on. Every online economy, sooner or later, invents a word for that person.

Putting it together

You do not need to memorise any of this. Read a room for a few minutes with this list nearby and the terms attach themselves to things you can see happening: the menu pinned at the top, the goal bar filling, the toy reacting to a tip. Within a visit or two the vocabulary is just part of the furniture, and you will be reading a busy room as easily as anyone else in it.

A few phrases you will hear in chat

Beyond the formal terms, rooms have their own casual shorthand that is worth recognising. "GM" and "GN" are simply good morning and good night. A "lurker" is someone watching quietly without chatting, which is completely fine and extremely common. "Tip menu" often gets shortened to just "menu," and a "goal" might be called a "gg" when it is reached. None of this is essential, but knowing it means the chat reads as friendly conversation rather than code.

You will also see performers thank tippers by name, often with a little flourish, and regulars greet each other like the familiar faces they are. That social texture is a big part of what makes a good room enjoyable, and once the vocabulary fades into the background you stop reading individual words and start simply following the conversation, which is when a cam room finally feels like a place rather than a feed.

If a term stumps you: it is completely fine to ask politely in chat what something means. Rooms are generally welcoming to newcomers, and a genuine question lands far better than pretending to know.
